Kelly Amonte Hiller: For me this organization carries the memories of my dad and the lessons that he taught us all. He always wanted to help young athletes to be confident and have the resources and connections they needed to compete at the highest level. So many people have said to me that “your dad believed in me and that made the difference for me”. For us this organization is helping us believe in another generation of young athletes, and giving them the resources they need to be successful.
Tony Amonte: Lewie enjoyed nothing more than helping out a kid in need, whether it be a pair of skates or a stick – that’s what brought him joy.
Laurie Amonte: When I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to call a parent to tell them that Captain Lew’s Crew is able to fund a camp, buy some new equipment, pay for a club team or what ever the need may be and the parent on the other end of the phone is crying, I know we are doing a good thing and that Lewie would be proud.
Ann Elliott: It is very easy to see that Mr. Amonte was an incredibly passionate and driven father, grandfather, husband and so much more. But to me he was the man behind the set of values and principles which his daughter, Kelly, taught me as the secret to success in life. His values included hard work, belief and never giving in or giving up. If you want something, you have to believe in yourself and go out and get it. He loved sports and believed in the education of sports relative to these values. His values changed my life and taught me how to overcome challenges, not just in sports but in life. I am excited to be a part of Captain Lew’s Crew because I believe that sports can change one’s life; they can teach you so many things and everyone deserves to be a part of that. I hope that CLC will continue to grow and I look forward to all the lives it will change and the stories of success that it will bring.
Ashley Gersuk: I met Lewie shortly after I committed to be a part of the first-ever class in the new era of Northwestern Women’s Lacrosse, and I remember him fondly as a supportive, passionate, and always entertaining presence. His supportive “hey, make saves, ok?!” were a uniquely calming motivation. Most importantly, Lewie believed that with enough inner drive and hard work, anything was possible, and he was right. His message was simple and powerful. I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences afforded to me by my involvement in sports over the years, and I believe wholeheartedly in their power to shape people. Captain Lew’s mission is clear – it may only take a pair of skates or a stick to make a life-changing impact on a kid’s life.
